TIGER Wall Ties – Installation Guide
This guide explains the correct installation procedure for TIGER remedial wall ties, including both Starter Wall Ties and Cavity Wall Ties. These instructions are based on the official TEP Products installation guide.
Tools & Preparation
- 8mm masonry drill bit
- Drill depth gauge set to 40mm
- Hammer action off when drilling into blockwork
- Ensure the drilled hole is clean and free from dust or debris
Installation Steps
- Use an 8mm masonry drill bit.
- Set the drill depth gauge to 40mm.
- Drill a hole 40mm deep in the existing brick or masonry. The hole may be drilled at an angle of up to 45° to align with the new course of mortar.
- If the existing wall is blockwork, turn off the hammer drill action.
- Ensure the hole is free of dust and debris.
- Before inserting the tie, check that the nut is not loose. If it is, tighten the nut up to the EPDM rubber sleeve. This should only require a few turns.
- Insert the wall tie so that the washer is almost level with the brickwork. Push the rubber sleeve into the hole. Up to 2mm of sleeve may remain exposed — tightening will draw the tie into the substrate.
- The tie should be a snug fit in the hole.
- If the rubber sleeve goes into the hole too easily, tighten the nut slightly so the sleeve swells.
- If the sleeve will not go into the hole, check for debris and loosen the nut slightly so the sleeve is less compressed.
- Once satisfied with the position of the sleeve, twist the tie by hand until it is finger tight. Do not force‑tighten the tie — hand tight only.
- Once tightened, the triangular head of the tie can be bent immediately into position.
Installation Summary
1. Drill the hole to the correct depth.
2. Insert the TIGER tie into the substrate.
3. Tighten the screw to expand the EPDM sleeve.
Important Safety Notes
TIGER remedial wall ties are designed as wall stabilisers, not weight‑carrying construction components. They will not prevent wall subsidence.
Ties must not be positioned less than 20mm from the end of a wall.
Minimum embedment depth is 40mm.
These ties must not be used when building a wall over 3 metres in height.
Installation should only be carried out by appropriately qualified and experienced personnel.
